2011-2015 Michael Powers
Michael Powers was appointed in 2011 by Governor Parnell. He serves as the chief executive officer for Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and Denali Center in Fairbanks, Alaska. He first served at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital as its chief financial officer in 1986 and was named chief executive officer in 1995. His healthcare leadership extends throughout the state and Pacific Northwest, including serving a 2nd term as chair of the Alaska Hospital and Nursing Home Association and serving as a former Alaskan delegate to the American Hospital Association’s Regional Policy Board. Powers earned a master's degree in health care services administration from University of Wisconsin Madison, and a bachelor's degree in English literature from Lawrence University. He earned a higher diploma in Anglo-Irish literature from Trinity College – Dublin as a Rotary International graduate fellow. Powers’ community involvement includes membership on the executive committees of the Interior Community Health Center and the Fairbanks Concert Association, former co-chair of the United Way of the Tanana Valley, and former member of the University of Alaska Summer Research Academy's advisory committee. He has worked as a high school English teacher, newspaper reporter, and VISTA volunteer in Alaska and Wisconsin.
Powers resigned his seat on the board on July 21, 2015 to serve as interim chancellor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
