Regents' Board Chair Issues Statement Regarding Possible Misuse of UA Seal
For Immediate Release
Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007
The University of Alaska Board of Regents takes allegations of misconduct seriously.
The federal government's criminal case against Fairbanks resident Jim Hayes, who serves
on the board, is ongoing. The criminal case is not centered on the university. However,
a separate issue of possible misuse of the university's seal and the position of regent
was raised by the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner.
Board Chair Mary K. Hughes of Anchorage said, "Regents are expected to conduct themselves
in an ethical manner and comply with state law as well as regents' policy. If there
is evidence that misuse has occurred, the university will take appropriate action."
