Chancellor search underway at the University of Alaska Anchorage

The 13-member Search Committee appointed to recruit the next University of Alaska Anchorage chancellor announced today that it has finalized the position profile, candidate attributes and search timeline. The information has been posted to the chancellor search website and includes a timeline for stakeholder participation in the search.

The prospectus provides nominators and potential candidates with information about UAA, its campuses and communities, the role of the chancellor, and the desired qualifications and characteristics of a successful candidate.

“This is an outstanding opportunity for a talented and accomplished executive to lead UAA, advance the future of higher education in Southcentral Alaska, and enhance the relationship of the university to the city, the state, and Tribes,” said Aleesha Towns-Bain, one of three Alaskans chairing the search committee.

The next Chancellor will be selected by Interim President Pat Pitney this spring with the intent for that person to take office by July 1, 2021. As the search progresses, updates will be posted at https://www.alaska.edu/pres/ uaa-chancellor/index.php

Faculty, staff, students, alumni and community stakeholders were asked to weigh in on the attributes the next chancellor should possess, and about 250 people provided feedback. Those attributes can be found on the chancellor search website.

Faculty, staff and students will be invited to listening sessions in early April with the final candidates, and will have ample opportunity to voice their opinions to the search committee.

The university invites applications and nominations for the chancellor position by March 24, 2021. Complete applications must include a current curriculum vitae, a letter of interest describing relevant experience and interest in the position, and a list of three professional references. Applications must be submitted through the Careers at UA position listing.
