University of Alaska Board of Regents to meet July 30

WHO: The University of Alaska Board of Regents

WHAT: Special meeting of the full board, Thursday, July 30.

Regents will consider final approval of mandatory changes to Title IX policy. In May, the U.S. Department of Education released new guidance on how colleges and universities must handle allegations of harassment and sexual assault under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. The new “Final Rule” goes into effect on Aug. 14, 2020. The regents will consider proposed changes to the Sex and Gender-Based Discrimination policy, the student code of conduct and nondiscrimination policy.

The board also will hear an update from the Governance Committee on the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems report regarding UA’s governance structure and proposed changes to policy outlining the roles of the UA Board of Regents, president, and chancellors.
