July 25, 2001» NR 12-01

Lisa Villano, UAF education student and coordinator for the UA Coalition of Student Leaders, has been appointed by Governor Tony Knowles as the student commissioner to the Alaska Postsecondary Education Commission for a two-year term. She succeeds Skye M. Rubadeau, 2000-2001 president of the Union of Students of the University of Alaska Anchorage.

“Lisa is multi-talented and will make an excellent commissioner,” UA President Hamilton said. “I am very proud of her.”

The Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education was established by the Legislature in 1974 to coordinate and provide comprehensive planning for postsecondary education in Alaska, encompassing public, private and proprietary postsecondary educational institutions in the state.
Ms. Villano is a senior majoring in elementary education, and has also served as an Associated Students of UAF (ASUAF) senator.

She is also a member of the steering committee for the Northwest Student Leadership conference held each year in Portland, Oregon, and a member of the steering committee for the national State System Association Alliance.
