More than a dozen baccalaureate, associate and certificate academic programs targeting critical state needs will be up for approval when the University of Alaska Board of Regents meets in Fairbanks on Thursday and Friday, June 7 and 8.

Regents also will consider an administration recommendation that the university apply to acquire the Old Fairbanks Courthouse and parking structure properties, which have been declared surplus by the State of Alaska, for use by the Tanana Valley Campus of UAF. Several other property matters are also on the agenda.

The full board will convene Thursday at 8 a. m. to hear University President Mark Hamilton’s report, and to hear public testimony beginning about 10 a. m. Board committees will meet Thursday afternoon and Friday.

The full board will meet on Friday from 2 p. m. until 5 p. m. An executive session is scheduled for the late afternoon, and is expected to last an hour and a half.

Academic & Student Affairs

• Consider approval of Bachelor of Arts in Education Degree programs at UAA, UAF and UAS, and consider approval of a Bachelor of Liberal Studies Degree program at UAA.
• Consider approval of the following degree programs at UAA: Certificate in Logistics, Certificate in Practical Nursing, Associate of Applied Science in Process Technology at Kenai Peninsula College, and major revisions to Certificate and Associate of Applied Science in Electronics Technology.
• Consider approval of the following degree programs at UAF: Certificate and Associate of Applied Science in Tribal Management, Certificate and Associate of Applied Science in Emergency Services, Certificate and Associate of Applied Science in Dental Assisting, Associate of Applied Science in Process Technology at Tanana Valley Campus, Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Computer Science, Master of Science in Statistics and Master of Arts in Administration of Justice.
• Consider approval of Certificate in Outdoor Management at UAS.
• Receive an update on the accreditation status at UAF.
• Discuss the university’s entrance requirements.
• Receive a report on summer 2001 activities and institutes.

Finance, Facilities & Land Management

• Consider authorizing the administration to sell approximately 2.5 acres in Seward near the Alaska SeaLife Center for a Park Service/Forest Service office and visitor center facility.
• Consider authorizing the administration to accept the Old Fairbanks Courthouse and parking structure from the State of Alaska.
• Consider authorizing the acquisition of about 1.96 acres of land at 12020 Mendenhall Loop Road, adjacent and south of the UAS student housing complex near the UAS Auke Lake campus. The acquisition of the northern portion of this lot will allow the eventual expansion of student housing.
• Consider approval of revisions to Regents’ Policies on Real Property and Facilities.
• Accept the FY02 capital budget appropriation and approve the capital budget distribution plan.
• Consider project approval of the UAF Toolik Field Station natural gas conversion project.
• Receive a report on University investments in capital facilities, construction in progress and other projects.

Human Resources

• Consider approval of re-employment for FY99 Retirement Incentive Program participants.
• Consider approval of Regents’ Policy on Salary Administration.
• Receive an update on the Career Planning component of the Professional Development Program and the status of the Classification Project.

Audit

• Review recently completed audits and receive the audit status report.
• Consider approval of the FY02 annual audit plan.
• Meeting jointly with the Finance, Facilities and Land Management Committee, the Audit Committee will receive a report on a new reporting format required by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board.

Planning & Development

• First review of proposed revisions to Board of Regents’ Bylaws.

Committee of the Whole

• Hear a presentation on genomics by Dr. Leroy Hood, president, director and founder of the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle since 1999. Previously Dr. Hood was at the University of Washington, where he created the cross-disciplinary Department of Molecular Biotechnology.
• Consider approval of Regents’ Policy on Tuition and Student Fees.
• Accept the FY02 operating budget appropriations and approve the distribution plan for the FY02 operating budget.
• Consider approval of the FY02 student government budget request.
• Consider approval of revisions to the Regents’ policy on the Land Grant Endowment regarding the annual distribution of earnings from the Natural Resource Fund.
• Receive a report from Mike Sfraga, director of Program Development, on the University of Alaska Virtual University Consortium.
• Discuss ways in which the Board of Regents can recognize excellence throughout the University of Alaska system.
