Five University of Alaska community campuses have received federal Department of Education grants totaling $9.4 million over five years to support programs and services for Alaska Native and rural students.
Grant recipients are the Bristol Bay Campus in Dillingham, Chukchi Campus in Kotzebue, Northwest Campus in Nome, and Kuskokwim Campus in Bethel, all part of UAF's College of Rural Alaska; and the Sitka Campus of UAS.

"These are major grants which make new academic and student support programs possible," said Ralph Gabrielli, executive dean of the College of Rural Alaska at UAF. "They will elevate what rural campuses are able to contribute within their regions to an absolutely new level."

The grant funds will be used for career training programs in health and business, land and resource management, and for financial aid advising and other student support services. Each campus will receive from $280,000 to $410,000 per year for five years.

UAF's Interior Aleutians Campus in Fairbanks previously received a similar grant, and is now in year two of its program.

The Department of Education informed the campuses of their successful grant applications from Washington, D. C., this week.
