University Honors Three for Service to Students

Three staff employees of the University of Alaska have won the university's second annual "Make Students Count" awards for their outstanding service to students.
University President Mark R. Hamilton, who started the awards last year to recognize staff who have provided outstanding service to students from anywhere in the UA system, will present the awards Thursday, June 8, 2000, at the annual meeting of the Board of Regents on the UAA campus in Anchorage.
This year's winners are Rita Bowen, assistant to the Dean of Students, University of Alaska Southeast, Juneau campus; Sheila Chapin, administrative assistant in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of Alaska Fairbanks; Carol Piser, administrative assistant at the University of Alaska Anchorage's Eielson Air Force Base military education center.
"All three of these outstanding university employees were nominated by faculty, fellow staffers and students," Hamilton said. "Day in and day out they do the kind of outstanding work that inspires not only students, but all others who come into contact with them. It's a pleasure to honor them."
Each winner of the award receives a cash award of $1,000 and two vouchers for travel
on Alaska Airlines.
