UA president tours Anchorage to meet with leaders, general public

FAIRBANKS--Dr. Robert W. Hiatt, president of the University of Alaska, will be in Anchorage most of this week, continuing his familiarization tour of university campuses and meeting with civic leaders and the general public.

Last Friday in the office of Dr. Lewis Haines, provost for the Southcentral Region, Hiatt accepted a $10,000 gift to the university from the Atlantic Richfield Co.

He and Mrs. Hiatt met Anchorage faculty members and spouses at evening receptions on Friday and Saturday in the Haines home.

Hiatt is to meet tomorrow (Tuesday) with Dr. John 0. Picton, president of Alaska Methodist University, and appear with him on a local television program. He and Anchorage Mayor George Sullivan will make a walking tour of the campus and thcn attend a luncheon in Anchorage Community College's Cuddy Center at which Hiatt has been asked to speak.

On Wednesday, the university president will meet with the University of Alaska, Anchorage Citizens Advisory Committee.

Back in Fairbanks on Thursday, Hiatt will meet with the university's Statewide Instructional Council, discuss the selection of a student for appointment to the Board of Regents with the provosts and a state official, and attend a reception with Mrs. Hiatt co-sponsored by the Associated Students and Northern Region provost Earl Beistline.

The following day at Fairbanks, the president will participate in a meeting of the University Assembly, a statewide legislative body comprised of representatives of the administration, staff and students.

He and Mrs. Hiatt will return to Anchorage on Saturday for a public reception from 7-9 p.m. in the Cuddy Center.

From Sept. 25-27, Hiatt will be in Ketchikan for a meeting of the Board of Regents.

On Aug. 29, the Hiatts were guests of honor at a reception in the Traveler's Inn here hosted by the Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce. At an on-campus reception on Sept. 6 they met University of Alaska, Fairbanks faculty members and spouses.

The Hiatts on Sept. 10 met Southeastern Region administrators and faculty at Juneau and in the evening were guests of honor at a public reception at the Baranof Hotel.

The following day they lunched with the university's local Citizens Advisory Board.
