UA President goes to South Vietnam to meet with educators

FAIRBANKS-- Dr. William R. Wood, president of the University of Alaska, flew to South
Vietnam Saturday on another educational consulting assignment for the U.S. Agency
for International Development.
This is Wood's third trip to South Vietnam in the past year and a half to assist the
nation in upgrading its institutions of higher learning.
The educator has undertaken a number of assignments of this nature in the past, the
first of which took him to Libya in 1955. He is a vice president of the International
Association of University Presidents which met in Liberia in 1971 to lend assistance
to developing nations of mid-Africa.
In South Vietnam, Wood is expected to consult with the minister of education and his
staff and educators.
He plans to return to Alaska on April 28.
