Board of Regents to review and approve a $277 million FY21 state appropriation operating budget for the university
FAIRBANKS -- The University of Alaska Board of Regents will hold its regularly scheduled meeting Nov. 7-8 in Fairbanks. The board will spend the first day of its two-day meeting in a facilitated workshop with the chancellors, president, governance leaders and several experts on university systems and accreditation. The intent of the workshop is to establish common ground on university structural issues including leadership roles and responsibilities.
The board will review the university’s FY21 $277 million state appropriation ($832 million total) operating budget for submission to the governor’s Office of Management and Budget. The compact signed by the board with Gov. Michael J. Dunleavy, established a $70 million budget reduction over three years for the university. The proposed $277 million budget reflects another $25 million reduction -- the second year of the three-year cut. Although regents are expected to move the budget on to the governor, details of the spending plan will not be finalized until early next year.
Regents also will discuss a tuition increase for the fall of 2020 and elect new board officers.
On the evening of Nov. 7 following the workshop, Regents will celebrate the renaming of the University of Alaska President’s House to Schaible House at an event in honor of Grace Berg Schaible, one of the university’s most notable alumna.
