Faculty Time Off for FY 23
Release date: 11/29/22 to individual faculty members email addresses from UA HR Communications:
Reminder: Faculty Time Off for FY23
Dear UA Faculty Members:
United Academics (UNAC) bargaining unit members (UNAC Collective Bargaining Agreement Article 16.5) are provided with 15 days of Faculty Time Off (FTO) during the nine-month contract period each academic year. Faculty Time Off for appointments at less than full-time shall be prorated accordingly. Faculty members who work on a “plus month” contract extension (1, 2, or 3 months) outside of their nine-month assignment will receive two days of faculty time off for each additional month of a full-time appointment. These FTO hours are in addition to UA observed holidays (UNAC CBA Article 16.4). Three of the 15 FTO days must be taken during the UA winter closure, while remaining hours are typically utilized during the following periods:
- before classes begin in the fall semester, and when faculty are on-contract and being paid by the University
- after classes have completed in the fall semester and grades have been turned in and faculty are being paid by the University
- in January when the University reopens (after the holiday closure period) for business and faculty are on contract and being paid by the University, and before spring classes begin
- spring break
You can see your leave balance at any time by logging in to UAOnline and selecting 'Employee Services' and then 'Time Off Current Balances and History'. We encourage you to work with your supervisor to utilize this benefit for your well-being. FTO does not accrue from one contract period to the next if not used.
Faculty Time Off Cash-In Guidelines
United Academics bargaining unit members who have utilized and reported at least five days of FTO (40 hours or its prorated equivalent for less than full-time bargaining unit members, which include the three days of mandatory closure) may cash out up to five days (40 hours or its pro-rated equivalent for less than full-time UNAC members) of unused FTO during each academic year. The cash out may only be made while the bargaining unit member is in pay status (i.e. on contract). The FTO Cash-in form is available through NextGen electronic form which requires your University Single Sign On credentials. Please refer to the Faculty Time Off FAQs for more information.
