Office of Public Affairs

Dear University Community,

In these challenging times for the University of Alaska, we are doing everything we can to provide updated information to you.

Here’s a link to a video update from President Johnsen on the declaration of financial exigency including information on community engagement and next steps.

And here is a list of resources to help you understand and follow the process as decisions and planning unfolds over the coming weeks.

FY2020 budget website: https://alaska.edu/pres/fy2020-budget/index.xml

Housed on President Johnsen’s page, this is the official location for systemwide updates related to the FY2020 budget including videos, communications and FAQs. You can alsosubmit questions for future FAQs.

Additional resources include a response to the OMB white paper about the university, copies of official memos including those outlining restrictions on travelhiring, and procurement, and a link to UA budget media coverage.

The site also offers information on the options for university structure being considered by the Board of Regents. Once a decision is made on structure and detailed planning begins, updates will be posted and there will be opportunities to provide feedback through this site.

HR Financial exigency page: https://alaska.edu/hr/exigency/

This is where we post and update the FAQ and information on financial exigency - in particular employee impacts – as well as submit questions for future FAQs. Human resources will provide more information on the impact of certain types of employment actions as we learn more about how the university will implement a plan under financial exigency.

Board of Regents: https://alaska.edu/bor/

The Board of Regents are having to make unprecedented decisions. This is where you access meeting and agenda information, presentation materials posted to BoardDocs, and find the link to watch the livestream.

The next special meeting of the Board of Regents will be July 30, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., in Anchorage. Watch live at http://www.alaska.edu/bor/live/. President Johnsen will present a more in-depth look at two options for the university structure along with detailed impacts for each option during Tuesday’s meeting, where we expect they will choose an option to pursue.

Legislative updates: https://alaska.edu/govrelations/report/

Our Government Relations staff provide regular updates from the legislature in the Capital Report. Their website also contains useful contact information, background information on important state and federal issues, and advocacy materials.
