Wil Finley: the Office of Audit and Consulting Services’ Straight Shooter

In his early years as a student at UAF, Will Finley, was a member of the university’s rifle team.  In 1993, the team continued its legacy as a top-ranked NCAA team placing second at the national championships, losing out to West Virginia University by only 10 points.  Since 2009, Finley has served UA as an information systems auditor for the Office of Audit and Consulting Services. In this position, he conducts information system reviews.

"Auditors constantly deal with executive orders, statutes, codes, regulations, ordinances, standards, best practices, policies and procedures,” said Finley. “Consider all these controls, and yet, I am convinced The Golden Rule is supreme.

Finley’s relationship with the university began in 1992 as an underagraduate in the UAF School of Management. In addition to being a standout on the Nanooks Rifle team, he also was part of part of the Honors Program, and the Student Investment Fund. After completing an Alaska Permanent Fund internship, Finley returned to UAF for one more year to complete his master’s degree in business administration.

After graduating with his MBA in 1997, Finley  returned to the investment world. After riding the dot com roller coaster, he decided he needed a change. So he packed his bags and traveled to Ukraine for what he describes as a “fascinating year of Christian ministry work.” By 2003, Will was back in Alaska teaching as an adjunct for UAF.
