The Office of Public Affairs is pleased to welcome Lily Weed!
Lily began as News and Content Manager on September 12. In this position she will create and share stories highlighting the UA system’s community.
Lily has an eclectic background. Most recently, she worked in digital communications design at Social Good Studio, a company she founded. Prior to that, she worked for Rasmuson Foundation, an experience that heightened her awareness of the unique ingenuity and passion of Alaskans and the communities they create. She has also worked as a freelance photographer, writer, and social media contractor. Two Septembers in a row, she traveled solo around the North Slope Borough with 300 lbs. of equipment making school and community photos.
Lily has a bachelor’s in Rhetoric and Film from Whitman College and a master’s in Media Studies from the New School for Public Engagement. A decade living abroad provided her with an informal education in the adaptability of perspective. She taught in China for four years, lived in Cambodia for a year, attended art school in Italy, and has spent much of her life walking around foreign places looking, listening, and learning. Through her varied experiences, she has an appreciation of simple communication as a tool for creating connection.
Lily lives near downtown Anchorage with her partner, their two young children, and two Cambodian cats. She enjoys long walks with friends, daydreaming of playful ways to build community connections, making massive tree collage photographs, and oil painting. Welcome, Lily!
