Carolyn Hall-Jensen
I am excited to join the University of Alaska as special assistant to Associate Vice President of Public Affairs Robbie Graham and Associate Vice President of Government Relations Miles Baker. I work closely with the Office of Public Affairs in communicating various statewide projects, and assist the Government Relations team with communications and coordinating legislative inquiries.
Prior to joining UA, I provided strategic visual communications for Governor Bill Walker. In early 2018, I led the education and outreach campaign for Anchorage’s first Vote by Mail election, which produced a historic number of voters in an Anchorage Municipal Election.
Before I worked in public relations, I was a television news photojournalist for nine
years, with stints at KTUU and KTVA in Anchorage, and KING in Seattle. During my time
at KTVA, I co-created the “Harvesting Alaska” series, which was honored with a 2017
James Beard Award.
Before moving to Alaska in 2008, I worked for the Boston Red Sox as a producer and
editor. On occasion, I had the exciting and terrifying experience of being a foul-line
ball attendant (terrifying when I sat on the right field foul line, with David Ortiz
at-bat).
I’m active in my community by serving on the Anchorage Women’s Commission, and volunteering for the Food Bank of Alaska. I also serve on the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Board of Governors, and I’m in my second term as vice president of the National Press Photographers Association, a 501(c)(6) visual journalism organization.
I am three classes away from earning my master of public administration degree from UAA; my emphasis area is policy analysis. My anticipated graduation date is spring 2020. I have a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Franklin Pierce University.
For fun, I go to Point Woronzof, at the end of Anchorage’s north/south runway, to watch jets take off and land while listening to air traffic control. My favorite aircraft is the Dreamlift
