Call Forwarding Must Be Updated
Oct. 29, 2021
In light of Alaska’s recent shift to 10-digit dialing requirements, all call forwarding from UA phones to off-campus or cell phones must be updated.
- If you have your office phone forwarded to an off-campus phone - like a cell phone change to
- 8-area code - phone number (local) or
- 8-1-area code - phone number (long distance).
- If you have your office phone forwarded to another extension - change it to the 7-digit phone number.
To update call forwarding from off-campus, use phones.uaf.edu.
Below is the general information from the last email.
In case you didn't catch this in the Cornerstone newsletter, the telephone systems at UAF campuses are changing sometime today.
- UAF Main Campus users (including Toolik, Soldotna, Poker Flats)
- Dillingham Campus
- Nome Campus
- Bethel Campus
In order to avoid overlap with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline abbreviated phone number, Alaska is moving to a 10-digit dialing plan for all telephone calls across the state. To facilitate this change by the deadline of October 24, 2021, several updates to the UAF phone systems are necessary.
Updates include:
- All outbound calls will be prefixed with 8, instead of 9
- All local calls will include the 907 area code
- 4-digit internal dialing will no longer be officially supported
