September Board of Regents Meetings

University of Alaska Board of Regents to hold board meeting Sept. 9-10, Committee meetings Sept. 2-3

University of Alaska Board of Regents wil hold its next full board meeting Thursday, Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. and Friday, Sept. 10 from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Committee meetings will be held the week prior to the full board meeting:

  • Academic and Student Affairs Committee - Thursday, Sept. 2, 9:00 a.m. - 12 noon
  • Facilities and Land Management Committee - Thursday, Sept. 2,1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Audit and Finance Committee - Friday, Sept. 3, 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

The two-day meeting of the full board Sept. 9-10 will focus attention on university issues including: 

  • Whether to develop and seek accreditation for a BA degree program in Early Childhood Development at UAA; 
  • A fall enrollment update; and,
  • An initial review of the FY23 budget and student tuition rates.

UA Interim President Pat Pitney will provide an update on the Alaska Native Success Initiative, and the board will hear committee reports and updates from university chancellors and governance groups. 

Additionally, regents will get an in-depth look into the university’s role in the development of Critical Minerals and Rare Earth Elements through the “Did You Know” presentation, which will include work being done at UAA, UAF and UAS on the research, exploration and extraction of these strategic minerals, and their importance to the state’s economy and national security.

The University of Alaska Board of Regents is an 11-member volunteer board, appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Alaska State Legislature. Members serve an 8-year term, with the exception of the student regent who is nominated from his/her campus and serves a 2-year term. The board was established through the Alaska Constitution and is responsible for University of Alaska policy and management through the university president.
