Statewide budget update

The Board of Regents asked for a presentation at its July 30 meeting on two options for university structure to provide programs and services after a major budget cut ($136 million in UGF state funds): current UA university structure with proportionate cuts or a new UA structure with single accreditation and shared services.

Under the first scenario, Statewide's target share of the UGF reduction is $8 million. We would meet that target via a combination of discontinuing vacant positions, allocating service costs to community campuses, and reducing positions.

The Chancellors at UAA, UAF and UAS have also generated high-level proposals for how they would meet their prorated reductions of $50 million, $68 million and $10 million respectively.

Tuesday's Board of Regents meeting, where these options will be discussed, will be livestreamed 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at www.alaska.edu/bor/live/
