UAS professor Wayne Price named Rasmuson Foundation's 2020 distinguished artist

Honoring a lifetime of creative excellence and outstanding contribution to Alaska's arts and culture the Rasmuson Foundation has named Wayne Aayaank'i Price its 2020 Distinguished Artist. Price is a Tlingit Master Carver, who is a member of the Wooshkeetaan clan and an associate professor of Northwest Coast Art at the University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau.

I came to UAF in April 1982 to work as a research technician in the Agricultural Experiment Station. My time here has brought me more joy than any person deserves. Every day has been stimulating, every week brought new challenges, and I always looked forward to Monday.

UAA M.P.H. alumna leads Anchorage Health Department

In 2002, after a phone interview with Boys and Girls Club of Alaska (BGC), UAA alumna Natasha Pineda bought a backpack and a pair of boots, booked a ticket out of PDX to Anchorage for what she calls, "a classic Alaska story." The M.P.H. '15 grad worked for BGC for a couple of years, ended up returning to Portland before moving to Mexico to live with her dad when she decided it was time to get serious about her career.

Former UA Regent Mary Jane Fate passes away
April 17, 2020
Mary Jane Fate, a former member of the Board of Regents, passed away on April 10 at the Denali Center in the company of her husband of 65 years, former state Rep. Hugh "Bud" Fate. She was 86.

Bobi Rinehart named UAA associate vice chancellor for development
April 17, 2020
Bobi Rinehart has been named the associate vice chancellor for development. Rinehart is a lifelong Alaskan, who has been raising funds in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska since 1992. Throughout her career, she has raised government grants, private foundation gifts, ran annual campaigns, overseen capital campaigns and worked with many different types of major donors.

The Alaska Legislature passed a citation honoring University of Alaska Southeast Chancellor Rick Caulfield for his many years of leadership and service to the University of Alaska.

Evon Peter withdraws resignation
March 31, 2020
Evon Peter has agreed to withdraw his resignation notice and will remain Vice Chancellor for Rural, Community and Native Education (VCRCNE). The current recruitment efforts for a replacement Vice Chancellor will be suspended.
