Alaska author Linda Schandelmeier wins national award

Alaska author and UAF graduate Linda Schandelmeier has won the 2019 WILLA Literary Award for her book of poems "Coming Out of Nowhere," published in 2018 by the University of Alaska Press. This nationally recognized award honors the best each year in literature, featuring women's or girls' stories set in the West.

Hite McGee resigns as chief human resources officer

Keli Hite McGee recently announced her resignation from her position as the University of Alaska’s Chief Human Resources Officer. Her last day with the university will be October 4th.

Erika Van Flein has been selected to be the Director of Employee Transition and Benefits. This new role will build on focusing on employee benefits to include new employee onboarding, and offboarding employees leaving UA.

Cachet Garrett takes the road less traveled (and likely always will!). Her life's journeys have led her around the world to 23 countries, with plans to visit many, many more. One of those paths led her to walk a 500-mile spiritual pilgrimage from France to Spain on the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, a journey that has transformed the lives of thousands of pilgrims over millennia.

As part of the University of Alaska Human Resources redesign, Michelle Pope will serve as Director of HR Operations. Presently, she is the UA Director of Accounting and Human Resources Information Systems. She is widely recognized for her project management skills, and provides training in project management for university employees.

Glenn Gambrell has been appointed the new Director of Labor and Employee Engagement. He joined the department on August 12.

Owen Guthrie hired as UAF eCampus director

Owen Guthrie was recently named director of UAF eCampus. He will oversee and manage all eCampus operations and report to the provost and executive vice chancellor.

Adam Watson has been named director of the Office of Planning, Analysis and Institutional Research. He will oversee and manage all operations within PAIR and report to UAF provost and executive vice chancellor Anupma Prakash.

Uher appointed acting dean for CRCD
July 19, 2019
Bryan Uher was appointed acting dean for the College of Rural and Community Development by Evon Peter, vice chancellor for rural, community and native education, effective July 1, 2019. He will continue as director of the Interior Alaska Campus during this temporary appointment.

Student regent Joey Sweet recognized for exceptional service
July 08, 2019
Last month, Stephen "Joey" Sweet ended his two-year term as the student member of the University of Alaska Board of Regents. The regents recognized his passionate and exceptional service to the board with a resolution of appreciation during the February 28-March 1 meeting.
