Steve McDonough received a B.S. in elementary education from Oregon College of Education and a M.A. in education from Cambridge College. He holds a K-8 elementary teaching certificate and a K-12 special education endorsement. His 28 years teaching experience started in Bend, Oregon where he taught for 4 years, and continued in Alaska over the next 24 years in Alakanuk, Kongiganak, Clarks Point, and Fairbanks. Steve has greatly enjoyed having the opportunity to teach many different grade levels and subjects, including children with special needs. Areas of interest within education include mathematics, hands-on science, literacy, and art.

"The thing I enjoy most about teaching is the challenge of creating a classroom where each student's needs are met and the learning is exciting and challenging for all. I have had the good fortune of teaching alongside several talented beginning teachers. I have benefited from the new perspectives they have brought to my school and the profession. At the same time I have helped them with ideas about classroom management, unit planning, assessment, student attendance, and parent communication. I look forward to my job as a mentor where I can continue to learn from, and help, new teachers."

When he is not teaching Steve enjoys fishing, camping, running, soccer, reading, and more fishing.
