Mentor Biography
Mary Eldred
Mary received her first degree in Science and Environmental Education from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She completed her Alaska Teacher certification at University of Alaska Anchorage in '83. She returned to UAA in '01 for her Reading Endorsement and completed her Masters from University of Alaska Southeast in '03. Mary most recently worked as a Literacy Coach with the Anchorage School District Title 1 Department. She has 19 years of elementary classroom experience, mostly at third grade, but also K, 2, 2/3 and 6th. Mary has an endorsement in Reading with many hours of coursework in all areas of literacy. Science and Environmental Education have always been a passion for her.

My goal has always been to be the kind of teacher that students remember as making a positive difference in their lives. I'm looking forward to guiding, supporting and inspiring new teachers as they enter this most demanding yet rewarding profession."
