Karen Doyle, a lifelong Alaskan, has been working with children, parents, and teachers for nearly 30 years. Most of those years were spent teaching first grade through middle school for the Matanuska-Susitna School District. She began her career with a BA in Art Education from the University of Oregon; and midway earned her Masters in Reading from UAS. A long-time advocate for Literacy and the Arts, Karen enjoys teaching students of all ages to become skilled readers, writers, and artists.  Since joining the Alaska Statewide Mentor Project in 2012, Karen supports early career teachers as they adjust to often unfamiliar living conditions and culture. She fosters appreciation for local cultures and enhances teachers’ strengths so that they can be successful in their new homes and schools.  By nurturing each teacher’s professional growth, results include effective instruction and improved student achievement. She delights in their (teachers’ and students’) success. When Karen is not mentoring she and her husband, Bob, love to spend time with their four grandsons; she also likes to paint, sew, read, hike and ski.
