Mentor Biography
Don Campbell
Don graduated from Central Washington State College in 1973 with a BA in Early Childhood Education. His first year of teaching (1974-75 school year) was opening a high school in Holy Cross on the Yukon River. What a challenge that was! After teaching two years in Holy Cross, with the second year being a 4-8 th grade teacher, he moved on to Kotzebue where he taught 6th grade. In 1977, he moved to the Mat-Su to begin teaching for the Mat-Su Borough School District.. In Mat-Su, he taught at Big Lake for two years, then moved to Snowshoe Elementary for the next 32 years.
"I loved teaching in the classroom. Once computers came into the classroom and I finally figured out how to attach an electronic signature, I signed my documents with: "Just a Highly Qualified Old Guy Who Still Loves Teaching". I felt this described me fully. I have found throughout my career that humor, flexibility, and commitment have enabled me to enjoy my career for so long. It is truly an honor to be part of this project and I look forward to working with so many talented and wonderful mentors."
