Deb received her B.S. degree in Elementary Education from the University of Alaska
in Anchorage, with a minor in Special Education. She went right into the Master's
program in Special Education and began working in the Anchorage School District as
an elementary special education resource teacher. After 10 years Deb began working
on her second M.A. degree, again in special education Birth through Age 5, through
UAA. She worked as a special education preschool teacher, then as an Intensive Needs
classroom teacher, before joining the Alaska Statewide Mentor Project in 2010. She
was the co-president of the Cook Inlet Literacy Council for the past 2 years and is
committed to providing training options for teachers and parents to help support literacy
development for all children. She is on loan from the Anchorage School District to
participate in this project.

is such an exciting profession. Nothing stays the same when you are working with children
and young adults. You, as a teacher, need to continually adjust to the students' strengths
and needs, as well as their emotional state. When students are engaged and learning,
achievement goes up and the teacher feels rewarded and satisfied. I am looking forward
to help support new teachers as they enter the profession."
