Farewell from Julie Shalvoy

I want to share that after 25 years at the University of Alaska, I am retiring!

I will always hold a special place in my heart for UAF, where I spent 22 years of my Human Resources career.

While I will miss the friendships I have made at UA, I’m very excited about beginning this next phase of my life.

OIT Welcomes New Programmer Jeffrey Waldron

Jeffrey Waldon is the latest programmer to join OIT's Enterprise Applications Services team. His focus will primarily be on Banner Finance programming.

Waldon is not entirely new to OIT. He worked as a student programming assistant at OIT Core Application Services from October 2011 through October 2014.

An Alaskan from Southeast, he was born in Ketchikan, and grew up in Valdez and Chugiak, Alaska.

Waldron is both a UAF alumnus, having completed a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science with a minor in mathematics, and a current graduate student working on a Master’s Degree in Computer Science.

Currently most of his time is spent on school.

UA Foundation Welcomes Lauren Hartman

Lauren Hartman has joined the UA Foundation to work on updating the Raiser’s Edge donor database to keep it current and accurate. While in college, Hartman was a research assistant at a lab under the US Department of Agriculture.

For the last two years she has been working on commercial fishing boats in Alaska as a biologist for the National Marine Fisheries Service. Both of those positions included lots of data collection, entry and maintenance. Hartman did most of her growing up in Wahoo, Nebraska.

She first came to Alaska in the fall of 2012 to work as a fisheries biologist out of fishing ports in the Aleutians and Alaska Peninsula, but did not officially move here until she moved to Anchorage about three months ago.

Hartman holds a Bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.

Since moving to Alaska Hartman has found a new love for fishing; she's been spending her first Alaskan winter weekends hanging around abandoned ice fishing holes. When the snow comes she will be skiing!

Budget and Planning Welcomes Diane Pederson

Diane Pederson has joined the office of budget and planning to assist in all aspects of budget development for the UA’s operating and capital budget requests. She will analyze information for accuracy and completeness and compile information used in department publications and reports.

Prior to now, Pederson worked for six years as Administrative Assistant for Facilities Services, Division of Design and Construction.

Pederson was born in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and raised in Ann Arbor. She attended Michigan State University for her bachelor's in Math and Science, and Eastern Michigan University for a� bachelor's in Business/Accounting.

In 1990, while working in Alabama, she traveled to Alaska to visit friends working on the construction of Bradley Lake Hydro Plant outside of Homer. Pederson fell in love with Alaska, and moved here in 1991. She split the first two years in Alaska between summers in Anchor Point and winters in Fairbanks, before deciding to make Fairbanks her home.

Single and an owner of four parrots (two talk), Pederson enjoys sharing time with friends, reading, movies, baking/cooking, jewelry making, knitting, traveling, camping, fishing and just enjoying the Alaska outdoors.
