Title IX Training Information
The U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights (OCR) is conducting a Title IX compliance review of the University of Alaska system. Although people often consider Title IX to be focused on athletics programs, the law is much more broad. It is important for all of us to be aware of our role and responsibilities as employees at the University of Alaska.
All Statewide employees are asked, at a minimum, to complete the online SkillSoft course, “Title IX for Higher Education.” This Quickstart will assist you in accessing the SkillSoft materials.
The online course takes approximately 30 minutes. Some employees may find that they will finish more quickly and some may need additional time. Please coordinate with your supervisor to complete the course during your work day.
Employees may access this SkillSoft course by:
1. Logging into UAOnline, clicking the “Employee Services” tab, then “Employee E-Learning” and “SkillSoft”) or
2. through the following weblink: https://online.uas.alaska.edu/misc/skillsoft/
Login requires your UA ID and password. If you need assistance with your password, contact the UA CallCenter at 450-8300 or your regional helpdesk.
If the course does not open within 45 seconds, call the UA Call Centers for assistance 450-8300 or 1-800-478-8226. Recent solutions included allowing pop ups for the course or to add the uoa.skillport.com as a trusted site. A Java download may be needed if one is not present on your computer. This author finds that Java version 6 update 41 works for both Skillsoft courses and Banner. However, the UA Call Center will provide you with guidance specific to your needs.
After completing the course, in order to maintain your test scores, click the "Exit" button to exit properly.
If you are unable to finish the course in one sitting, be sure to exit properly to automatically bookmark where you left off and maintain your test scores. DO NOT use the red-colored X box in the top right external corner or other Windows control functions to exit the course. Otherwise, you may lose your scores and bookmark.
Title IX Coordinators are located at the universities and are available to answer your questions with Title IX questions or concerns. Feel free to refer others to those offices, as well.
