Congratulations Niki Countryman!

Statewide Finance is pleased to announce that their Senior Auditor, Niki Countryman, has obtained her Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) professional certification. This is her 3rd professional certification, as she already has the CPA and CMA professional certifications. As an educational institution, we value the educational pursuits of our staff.

Amber Gichard Promoted

The UA Foundation is pleased to announce that Amber Gichard has been promoted to Senior Fund and Gift Services Manager and will manage the gift acceptance process for all gifts to the University and the Foundation. Amber will serve as lead for the four-member Fund and Gift Services team, which includes Carolyn Voss in Anchorage and Amanda Straight and Ashley Holloway in Fairbanks. Amber has served in the role of Fund and Gift Services Manager for the Foundation for five years and before that she served in a similar capacity at UAA. Amber will be finishing her Bachelor's in Business Administration this fall from UAS. Congratulations, Amber!

UA Foundation Welcomes Harry W. Need IV

As the Director of Gift Planning, Harry Need is responsible for directing the Foundation’s planned giving program. He serves as a resource for leadership and development staff across the UA system and supports their major and planned giving efforts. Need works to ensure the highest standards of ethics, efficacy and respect are in place for the university’s donors and probable donors.

Before joining the Foundation, Need worked as a Development Officer in Major Gifts for the University of Alaska Anchorage. Previously, he served as Development Coordinator before becoming Assistant Director of Annual Giving at UAA. He also dedicated two years to Habitat for Humanity Anchorage as Director of Development.

Need studied at University of Colorado at Boulder, where he earned a bachelor's degree in political science; at the University of Tulsa College of Law; and at the UAA College of Business and Public Policy, where he earned his Masters of Public Administration. Need is also an alumnus of Leadership Anchorage through the Alaska Humanities Forum and is a Certified Fundraising Executive.

Born in Aiken, South Carolina, Need grew up in a combination of Missouri, New York, Arkansas and Louisiana. He arrived in AK (with his fingers crossed on the UAA gig because he couldn't afford the long drive back) in May of 2007. Need enjoys serving his community through a number of leadership positions. He serves on the board for the Alaska Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, as a trustee for the Denali Ski Patrol, as vice president of the Fairview Community Council and delegate to the Federation of Community Councils. On winter weekends, you can find him at Arctic Valley Ski Area as a part of the Denali Ski Patrol snow safety team.

Labor and Employee Relations Welcomes Terry Lyle

Terry Lyle is the new administrative assistant for Labor & Employee Relations (LER), providing administrative support for the Director and Coordinators. Lyle serves as the first point of contact for the office of LER and will assist with department travel, purchasing, and budget responsibilities.

Originally from Texas, Lyle came to Alaska 30 years ago while on active duty in the Army. Office administration has been her vocation since that time. Lyle previously held a position at UAF and returns following 10 years at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and two years with family.

Lyle appreciates her husband, Richard, and three wonderful sons. Her eldest son works and attends UAF while the other two currently attend high school. The Goldstream Valley affords the family a great area to hike, bike, cross-country and downhill ski, and sometimes just to enjoy the view from the deck.

Tirza Cain, a new HR Systems Specialist, joins the Statewide Human Resources team based in Fairbanks.

Cain was born in Salem, Oregon and has lived in Alaska since 1981. She received her training and education through UAF and an OJT program.

Cain enjoys outdoor activities with family in her free time. In particular, she spends her time kayaking, riding her motorcycle and going to her son’s football games.
