The University of Alaska Fairbanks has selected three finalists for the position of dean at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Community and Technical College. The finalists include Robert Holden, director of auxiliary, recharge and contract operations, UAF; Fred Villa, associate vice president of academic affairs, University of Alaska; Jim Whitaker, vice president of development, Fairbanks Pipeline Training Center Trust.

• Holden has worked as director of auxiliary, recharge and contract operations at UAF since 2002, following a long career as an administrator for the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District and as a local business owner.

• Villa has been the UA associate vice president of academic affairs since 2006. He previously was special assistant to the Catholic Bishop of Northern Alaska and worked at the North Pole refinery for Flint Hills Alaska and Williams Alaska Petroleum.

• Whitaker is the vice president of development for the Fairbanks Pipeline Training Center Trust. He previously served as borough mayor and as a representative in the Alaska State Legislature.

Each candidate’s CTC visit will conclude with a public question-and-answer session from 5-6 p.m. in Room 119 of the CTC building at 604 Barnette St. Villa was scheduled for April 17, Holden’s session was April 20 and Whitaker was April 24.

A search committee will meet May 3 to discuss the visits and report its findings to Bernice Joseph, the UAF Vice Chancellor for Rural, Community and Native education who oversees CTC.

UAF hopes to have a new dean in place by early June.
