Dianne Milke will serve as the new, full-time executive assistant to President Gamble, replacing Barb Nilsen, who is retiring. Also helping serve in that position previously was Dianne Taylor, assistant to Executive Vice President Wendy Redman. Taylor will resume her full-time duties in University Relations.

Milke has been the assistant to the UAF Chancellor since February 2006. She served as office manager/paralegal for UA Office of the General Counsel from January 2005 to February 2006.  The previous 25 years she spent working as a paralegal and in K-12 education.

Milke was raised near the small southeast Nebraska town of Beatrice.  At her 10-year high school reunion, she met a classmate who lived in Fairbanks.  They were engaged within four months and he persuaded her to move to Alaska in 1989 “for just five years.”  Milke's parents were thrilled--not just that she was getting married--but the move to Alaska gave them an excuse to finally visit the state for the first time since her dad’s military service at Ladd Field in the early 1950s.

Milke received her degrees through Southeast Community College and UAF. She has held national paralegal certification since 1980 and in 2001 earned an AAS in Paralegal Studies at UAF.

Her husband, Mike, is an electrician for Golden Heart Utilities.  They have two sons, Shaun, 19, and Kyle, 16, who are avid fishermen along with their dad.  Milke enjoys lifting weights, yoga, biking and gardening.

Arista Hageman

University of Alaska Foundation Anchorage Office

Arista Hageman's new duties at the UA Foundation include data administration, data integrity, planning and training, online data/information services, as well as Foundation website maintenance and updates.

Previously, Hageman worked with Stone Soup, a nonprofit based in Washington, as administrative director for five years. While there she was overseeing website and database administration, staff and student software training and general office administration. She has taught website design continuing education courses through Wenatchee Valley College and started her own web design company, Site by Sight, in 2007.

Hageman was born and raised in rural Eastern Washington state and most recently lived in Olympia, Wash. She is very new to Alaska, having arrived here three weeks ago via the Alaska Highway.

She received a bachelor's degree from Oregon State University in 2004 and will complete her associate's degree in computer science with a focus on web development in the fall of 2010 through Baker College.

Currently, she enjoys moose-dodging and bear-watching with her two dogs.

Rick Forkel

Familiar face, different position: Director of Emergency Management

The Office of Risk Services announces the appointment of Rick Forkel as director of emergency management.  Forkel served as emergency manager since March 2007.

In his prior position, he spent a majority of his time assisting UAS in the development of their programs.  In his new role as director, Butrovich and BOB staff are likely to see more of him as he focuses on the preparedness and training of Statewide staff.  Remember the fun “active shooter “drill?  You can look forward to more similar adventures with Forkel at the helm.

He'll also provide oversight, direction and coordination for the development, implementation and testing of emergency preparedness processes and programs for all campus locations.
