VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Host families for UAF Women's Volleyball
The UAF Women’s Volleyball department is looking for volunteer host families to help visiting teams have a great experience in Fairbanks. There are three teams coming up for the 2010 Kendall Auto Nanook Classic that is occurring over Labor Day weekend September 3 & 4, 2010. These teams are the Cal State East Bay Pioneers from Hayward, California, the University of Charleston Golden Eagles from Charleston, West Virginia, and the Bellarmine University Knights from Louisville, Kentucky.
Being a host family is very simple and can be a great experience for your entire family, especially any of your children who are budding athletes. The main job of a host family is being here in Fairbanks as a resource for the coach to help answer any questions they may have, to help make sure their stay runs smoothly, and to provide some of that local Fairbanks hospitality to make them feel welcome! Your willingness to make sure these visiting athletes have a great experience in Fairbanks is part of what makes the tournament so great and keeps teams coming back.
If you are interested and would like more information, please contact Candice Krupa, Host Family Coordinator, at x8037 or crkrupa@alaska.edu. Go Nooks!

Looking for Volunteer Cooks in Fairbanks!
The UAF women’s volleyball team is also looking for cooks! While the team is in pre-season practice during the month of August, it is a great help to the program if local supporters can provide a lunch or dinner for the team. Providing a meal for the team accomplishes many things including help alleviate program costs to feed the entire team for the month, provide students who are living in a dorm with a good meal, and gives your family the opportunity to meet the team on a personal level.
Lunches are held at the Patty Center on UAF campus at 1130am (supplies can be dropped off earlier in the day if you are unable to get away from work at that time). Food can be whatever you want to provide, whether it be homemade sandwiches or casseroles, or it can be purchased, like sandwich platters, for example. Dinners are held around 6pm and the team actually comes to your house for a couple hours (they usually leave by 8 as they are tired from practice). Again, food can be whatever you want to provide, whether it be homemade sandwiches, casseroles or spaghetti or it can be purchased, it does not have to be overly elaborate.
Dates for lunches and dinners are available from 8/9/2010-8/26/2010. Please contact Candice if you are interested and she can provide you more information. x8037 or crkrupa@alaska.edu. Thanks so much!
As a former player who participated in this program for four years, I can personally tell you what a difference it makes to the athletes to have a good meal and local support.

Please save your Box Tops over the summer! If you don't already have a school to donate them to, please bring them to Kim in 103. If you don't know what I'm talking about, please come over and I'll show you an example. Each Box Top is worth $0.10 for schools to buy computers, playground equipment, art supplies, etc. Box Tops are on a myriad of products: cereal, tissue, binders, refrigerated biscuits, and LOTS more. It's easy to support our local kids and schools!
