Union Update

The University of Alaska has completed posting the Notice of Petition in UA buildings. This was required once ASEA met its 30 percent showing of interest through the submission of signed representation cards to the Alaska Labor Relations Agency (ALRA). On July 27, UA formally notified the ALRA that posting had been completed. That date marked the beginning of a 15-calendar day period in which to submit any objections to the composition of the bargaining unit, the conduct of the election or to file any interventions.

After the 15-calendar day period concludes, there will be a scheduled pre-election conference between the Alaska Labor Relations Agency, the University of Alaska and the union. At that conference, the parties will discuss election dates and other issues concerning the upcoming representation election. Once election dates are agreed upon, UA will remove the Notice of Petition postings and will post the Notice of Election, as supplied by ALRA.

More information will be provided concerning the upcoming election as soon as it is available.

Are you in the proposed bargaining unit?

The Notice of Petition has been posted at all offices, campuses and outreach sites and it lists all the job classification titles in the proposed unit. If you are unsure of your job classification or are unsure if you are considered a manager, and therefore not in the unit, please call the Labor Relations department at 450-8230 and they can look to see if you are in the proposed unit.

Make sure your address is current

In preparation for the upcoming election, the university encourages you to update your mailing address with your MAU's human resources department. ALRA will mail election ballots to the address currently in Banner. If you are not a Banner user, your departmental cost center clerk or personnel and payroll assistant should be able to check the mailing address that is listed in Banner for you. If your mailing address is not current or accurate, please update it with your MAU human resources department.
