The Statewide Administration Assembly held its annual meeting on June 11. It was the first meeting and orientation for new members and the final meeting for outgoing members.

Annual Meeting

The full-day agenda included department updates, a presentation by facilities and grounds, a review of the FY10/FY11 budget, the outlook for Statewide in the coming year, updates from various committees and organizations and a discussion of Anchorage employee issues.

Guests and presenters at the meeting included Chief Human Resources Officer Beth Behner, who discussed the July and December grid changes; Director of Benefits Mike Humphrey, who reviewed the UA Health in Action wellness plan, Caremark pharmacy plan and other cost reduction strategies related to health care; Vice President of University Relations Wendy Redman, who discussed the 2010 Legislative outlook, the retirement of President Hamilton, the F10/FY11 budget and advocacy in Juneau. In addition,�Bear Edson from Facilities Services discussed a range of issues from landscaping and sustainable campus initiatives to recycling plans,�snow removal, window tinting, a sidewalk for Tanana Loop and handicapped parking.

SAA representatives from Anchorage also had the opportunity to discuss issues that affect them, most notably the loss of all OIT positions for their offices, including networking technicians and a help desk representative, and the resulting cooperation developing with UAA and statewide OIT. In addition they discussed the positive reaction to video conferencing, with the exception of camera placement�during shared events with Fairbanks.

SAA Elections

Elections were held and the new officers for 2009-2010 are: Kim Eames, president; Dana Platta, vice president; Monique Musick, Secretary.

As SAA President, Kim Eames will preside at all meetings. In addition, the president of SAA holds a position on both the Staff Alliance and the System Governance Council. The president serves as the official representative of SAA when requested by the Vice President of University Relations, Wendy Redman.

SAA Vice President Dana Platta fills the duties of the president in event of the president's�absence. The vice president also serves on Staff Alliance and is an alternate for the president on the System Governance Council.

SAA Secretary Monique Musick presides over SAA meetings if both�president and vice president are absent. She serves as an alternate on the Staff Alliance and System Governance Council. This year will also be the return of the SAA Highlights, which will be published in the week prior to the next SAA meeting.
