University of Alaska ICS training and Pan Flu Seminar
The University of Alaska Office of Emergency Management in partnership with Alaska Department of Health and Social Services will conducti Incident Command System training for executives and a Pandemic Influenza Seminar on Thursday, July 30.
Over 30 executives, administrators and policy makers from UA Statewide, UAF and the community are enrolled in the Incident Command System (ICS) training. The course is intended as a system overview for those responsible for setting or implementing policy, but who are not normally part of the on-scene ICS organization and who may also lack incident management experience at the operational level. It provides a basic understanding of ICS, unified command and multi-agency coordination system (MACS.)
Following the training, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services will conduct a pandemic influenza seminar. Rick Forkel, UA Emergency Manager, will discuss emergency response, medical treatment facilities, student health protocol and other matters of concern to campus. Randy Pommenville, UAF Emergency Manager, will lead a discussion on the continuity of operations and the community impact on UA.� Ron Swartz, UAA Emergency Manager, will conduct a presentation on pandemic planning for universities and colleges. Sally Abbott, of the Alaska Division of Health and Social Services, will discuss health care preparedness.
