The School for Arctic Agriculture prepares northern communities for the unique agricultural challenges facing that region. Climate warming has brought significant changes, and attention, to the Arctic. As a result of navigating such changes, Arctic communities have become global experts in extreme-condition agriculture. The School innovates areas such as permaculture, growing architecture, and zero-waste systems, and also supports the food-growing needs of new Arctic populations like climate refugees from Bangladesh, Syria, and Latin America. Students in the School gain technical skills and cultural awareness, visiting Arctic sites and working with local communities.
