GNAC decision to suspend fall season affects UAA and UAF sports

Today, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference CEO Board announced that it would suspend all fall intercollegiate athletic competitions through Nov. 30.

UAF recognized as top school by Times Higher Education

The University of Alaska Fairbanks is the top U.S. university in Times Higher Education's 2020 Impact Rankings for quality education. The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings measure universities around the world against the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. The Impact Rankings for quality education consider metrics such as a university's "contribution to early years and lifelong learning, their pedagogy research and their commitment to inclusive education."

UA Board of Regents names Pat Pitney as university's interim president

The University of Alaska Board of Regents announced today that it has selected Pat Pitney to serve as the university's interim president. Pitney will take over from Acting President Michelle Rizk on Aug.1.

Board of Regents name five finalists for interim UA president

The University of Alaska Board of Regents has named five finalists for the interim president of the University of Alaska System. Over the next few days, regents will interview all five candidates and make a final decision on July 14.

University of Alaska Board of Regents approve process to select interim UA President
July 06, 2020
Today the University of Alaska Board of Regents approved a process for selecting an interim UA System president. The five-step process includes identifying key leadership attributes and nominating candidates, followed by the selection of final candidates and interviews to be conducted by the board. Final candidates will be announced July 9, and the board will meet to make final selection July 14. An announcement of the interim president is expected no later than July 15.

On May 2, the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) celebrated the achievements and accomplishments of over 450 graduates in Juneau, Sitka, and Ketchikan. During the Juneau celebration, the title of Chancellor Emeritus was bestowed upon Dr. Rick Caulfield by UA President Jim Johnsen. This is a prestigious honor which celebrates Chancellor Caulfield's continuous meritorious service as an educator and as a leader for UAS and the University of Alaska as a whole. Caulfield retires at the end of June, having worked for the University of Alaska for over 35 years.

I'd like to wish each of you a happy Independence Day, and a long, relaxing weekend. As we commemorate the anniversary of America's independence, I also am mindful that July is the start of the new fiscal year, which allows us to begin again with a renewed spirit and sense of purpose. We've faced numerous challenges this past year, but moving forward, we can forge new collaborations and opportunities as we come together to support a strong, diverse university community.

Acting UA President Michelle Rizk announces Dr. Karen Carey as Interim UAS Chancellor

University of Alaska Acting President Michelle Rizk has appointed Dr. Karen Carey to serve as Interim Chancellor, University of Alaska Southeast (UAS). Dr. Carey will begin July 1, succeeding outgoing UAS Chancellor Rick Caulfield.
