With support and assistance from local campuses, we created exciting opportunities for political leaders to observe, engage and experience the important work of our university system. We are pleased to provide this update from a very eventful summer.

  • Academic Review process underway

    September 23, 2019

    Dear UA Community, The Expedited Academic Review process is now underway. There are 13 inter-university academic review teams charged with preparing reports on possibilities for greater program integration, structural changes, and accreditation options to achieve cost savings and re-envision the delivery of academic programs across the university system. The teams are starting their work this week. Their reports will inform options for consideration by the Board of Regents at its November meeting.

    Alaska INBRE is requesting proposals for a multiyear developmental research pilot project in biomedical and health sciences research under a One Health theme.     Employees and students across the University of Alaska system reported on Monday that they had received an email advertising an app called "Wildfire." The email had a subject line that listed the recipient's name and said, "... welcome back to UAF!

    When I worked for Denali State Bank, I was inspired by a conversation with a coworker who paid for her entire college education with a UA College Savings Plan account. She told me that when she was growing up, she envied her friends who spent their Permanent Fund Dividend and cash gifts from family and friends. Her parents insisted that 90 percent of that money be invested in her 529 College Savings Plan account.

  • University Board of Regents clarifies stance on restructuring effort; Votes to consider options for single and multiple structures and establishes inter-university review teams

    Recognizing the importance of the budget and academic issues facing the university, the UA Board of Regents today voted to clarify its earlier position on university structure to make clear it wants to consider both single and multiple university accreditations in the work to redefine UA's structure as it works to strengthen programs and meet state funding reductions.
