    COVID-19 update: End of university response

    May 05, 2023

    As has been widely covered in national media, the federal government earlier this month ended the COVID-19 national emergency. The separate federal public health emergency is slated to end on May 11. The University of Alaska will also end its formal COVID-19 response on May 11. This change means that we will handle any COVID-19 needs as part of our normal operations.

    University of Alaska, Gov. Mike Dunleavy Announce Inaugural Global Autonomous Systems Conference

    The University of Alaska and Gov. Mike Dunleavy announced that the University and State of Alaska will host the inaugural Global Autonomous Systems Conference (GASC) in Anchorage on Aug. 9-11, 2023. GASC is a three-day gathering that will include presentations from worldwide experts, conversations among policy and industry leaders, and opportunities to connect with visionaries in autonomous systems.

    Changing guidance on COVID-19

    As you may know, the federal COVID-19 emergency declaration is expected to expire no later than May 11, 2023. While we wait for an official date for the national emergency's expiration, university leaders are reviewing federal guidance and preparing for how these changes will affect students and employees across the system. We are planning to share more information at the end of April.

    Understanding and avoiding improper influence in grants, contracts, leases and loans

    The Executive Branch Ethics Act (EBEA) states that "employees, or an immediate family member, may not attempt to acquire, receive, apply for, be a party to, or have a personal or financial interest in a state grant, contract, lease, or loan if the employee may take or withhold official action that affects the award, execution, or administration of the state grant, contract, lease, or loan."
