University of Alaska adopted new FERPA training
October 10, 2019
The University of Alaska (UA) recently adopted new Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA) training. It is available in the Learning Library at myUA dashboard. All UA employees that work with and/or have access to student records are required to complete FERPA training when they first join the university system. These same employees are asked to complete FERPA training annually thereafter to refresh their knowledge and help avoid FERPA violations.

Graduating from college was the wake-up call Carver needed to realize that she wasn’t happy with herself or her life. She led a sedentary life, exercising sporadically, mostly just before a vacation or an event that required her to wear a nice dress.

It is essential that we are armed with self-awareness and personal strategies to maintain positive emotional wellness and optimal mental health.

Title IX Training Deadline Reminder

This is your reminder that your Title IX required training is due to be completed by the end of this month (deadline is October 1, 2019). The Title IX Sex and Gender Based Discrimination training is conveniently provided for you via MyUA.

Introducing UA's New Wellness Program for FY20

University of Alaska's new wellness program is here! You'll find a lot of things that look the same, and some things are a little different. You can now connect your Apple or Google (Android) device for activity tracking through the health kit on those devices. You still need to take a health risk assessment and have a biometric screening but now we call those "point" activities instead of credits. This means you need 7 points instead of 5 on the old plan, but it's all the same activities. And for those who like to collect points, we're offering a special raffle later on for those who earn up to 12 points!

New Human Resources organization went live on Sept. 16

On May 6, UA announced a system-wide redesign of human resources into a unified office organized by areas of functional expertise. The directors of each functional area began reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer and working on finalizing implementation and training plans this summer. All other human resources staff that went through the redesign process will officially start in their new capacity Sept. 16, 2019. There are no changes to local embedded HR support staff (PPAs and CCC) in the department. By creating a single human resources organization with a unified presence on all campuses we can benefit from the shared scope of services as well as utilize the knowledge on the local campuses to provide a higher level of service overall.
