New policy reforms procedures for sexual discrimination, harassment and assault response
A new chapter in Board of Regents policy on Sexual and Gender-Based Discrimination passed unanimously during the board’s June meeting, and the changes to how the University of Alaska has committed to handling reports of sexual discrimination and harassment are substantial.
For the first time a single policy provides clear guidance for students, employees and external entities alike, including definitions, standards of conduct, reporting information and contacts, established timelines, equitable processes for complainants and respondents and a clear appeals process. MORE....
Mandatory updates to notice of nondiscrimination
The University of Alaska is required to comply with Title IX regulations and the terms of our Voluntary Resolution Agreement with the Office for Civil Rights (OCR). One specific action which must be completed as soon as possible is the publishing our recently approved new notice of nondiscrimination. All materials containing the nondiscrimination notice must be updated with the new language prior to August 30.
We are required by Title IX to include a statement of nondiscrimination in any bulletins, announcements, publications, catalogs, application forms, or other recruitment materials that are made available to participants, students, applicants or employees. This information also needs to be in any publication that mentions or describes sex discrimination policies, procedures, or prohibitions. MORE...
Expanded Summit Team and new councils promote enhanced communication
Effective July 1, President Johnsen expanded the Summit Team, the university’s core leadership group, and established new or expanded system-wide councils with clear communications links to the Summit Team.
The Summit Team now includes leaders of key functional areas throughout the university system, chairs of system governance bodies and the chair of each system-wide council. Led by President Johnsen, the expanded Summit Team will meet monthly for four hours via video and twice annually for full day face-to-face meetings. Increased participation on the Summit Team will enhance communications, collaboration and raise awareness of successes and challenges throughout the system. MORE...
Announcing the new performance management excellence training
We are excited to share with you the University of Alaska NEW performance management tool! This includes performance excellence best practices, and how the new myUA tool can be used more frequently to cultivate and clarify goals, expectations and development opportunities.
The vision of our University of Alaska Human Resources team at all campuses is to encourage supervisors and employees to meet regularly to discuss goals, development opportunities and communicate shared expectations. The collaborative effort to create a more fulfilled workforce that goes home feeling appreciated for their strengths and contribution to the university is inspiring.
We encourage supervisors and employees to attend a two hour introduction. Here is a link to the training schedule. We are also providing a link to the training presentation and myUA performance evaluation guide for those that want to get started right away and can’t attend the training.
Many thanks to all who participated in our BETA launch of the new performance evaluation tool in myUA. Now that we have incorporated the feedback from employees at all campuses, we have launched the new tool.
