The agenda for the Board of Regents’ Nov. 10 – 11 meeting in Fairbanks includes a budget discussion; approval of tuition, the FY18 operating budget, FY18 capital budget and 10-year capital improvement plan; Strategic Pathways updates include implementation on Phase 1 and information regarding the Phase 2 process; Title IX discussions including campus scorecards and presentations regarding expanding public partnerships and the value and performance of higher education in Alaska. Phase II of Strategic Pathways, the review of academic and administrative programs at the University of Alaska, commenced Oct. 4 with teams assembling in Fairbanks to begin the examination of four academic areas — fisheries, health, community campuses and e-learning. On Oct. 6, four additional teams began the evaluation of administrative programs – institutional research, university relations, student affairs and human resources.

Strategic Pathways is designed to develop ways for UA to focus its efforts and allocate resources in the years ahead. The process involves teams including students, faculty, staff, alumni, university administrators and community members from across the state who review each of the eight areas and provide options for creating efficiencies, increasing enrollment and maintaining quality for UA students.� MORE....

University of Alaska President Jim Johnsen has announced that he will gift $16,300 toward the completion of the Troth Yeddha’ Indigenous Studies Center on the campus of the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The gift, in the name of Jim and Mary Johnsen, was announced during the annual Alaska Federation of Natives gathering in Fairbanks on Tuesday evening and fulfills Johnsen’s pledge to donate his performance bonus to a university project or program. Miles Baker will join the University of Alaska executive management team as the Associate Vice President of Government Relations starting Nov. 1, 2016. This position works on behalf of the university with the legislature, the governor, and state and federal agencies. Baker will advise the president, Board of Regents, and university executives on political issues and strategies essential to successfully move the university’s legislative priorities. He will provide regular updates to the university community regarding legislative activities, the university budget approval process, and legislation affecting the university and its constituents.
