Retirement announcement from Julie Baecker
It is with some seriously mixed emotions that I bring you the news that I have announced my retirement from the University of Alaska effective February 2012. I looked around myself one day and realized I’d been working for the university longer than some of my employees have been alive (32+ years)! It is time to enter a new phase of life.
To say it was a tough decision is an understatement – and one of the toughest elements is knowing how much I will miss my staff and others that I have worked with for so many years. I have met some of the finest people in my life here at the university. Some have mentored me and I have mentored others; together, we have done some great things that have had a very positive impact on the University of Alaska system. I will always be grateful for the world of opportunities this institution has offered me.
As I go about figuring out what is next for me, I will take some time to visit my daughter, who is going to school in Spain this semester, spend more time with my fianc in Washington state, where two new babies are due this winter and spring, continue my volunteer work, and get in some winter skiing when my broken wrist is healed!
I will work with President Gamble to select an interim Chief Risk Officer to fill the gap as the search for my replacement is conducted.
Thank you! It’s been a great ride!
