New Directory Lookup Gadget for Google Apps @ UA email and calendar

Baffled by inviting people to meetings because you aren’t sure of their UAUsername@alaska.edu address?

Stymied by translating your old email contacts into the UAUsername@alaska.edu format?

The wait is over, there is a new tool!! It is a nifty new Enterprise Directory Gadget that you can install that will do an Enterprise Directory, (EDIR), lookup right from Google Apps @ UA.

It’s pretty easy to install and will come in real handy, so visit the gadgets page for instructions on adding the gadget. It takes about 3 minutes to do and provides an easy way to look people’s UAUsername@alaska.edu address required for Google Apps @ UA.

UPDATE: Computer login change postponed

Given the recent issues we’ve all been experiencing with Edir/Authserv, the activity to convert Windows Active Directory accounts to use UA Username has been postponed. Once the Edir/Authserv issues have been resolved and systems stabilized, we will issue another advanced notice announcing the new timeframe for the change.

This is information only, there is no action for you to take at this time.

Thank you for your patience and understanding if you have any questions, please contact me.

Computer Login Change happening the first week of February

This is notice of an upcoming change planned the first week of February. This is information only; no action is needed now.

In a continuing effort to consolidate login identifications and passwords, OIT will convert Windows Active Directory accounts for UAF and Statewide (the account used to login to your computer), to use the UA Username and password.

This change will happen the first week of February and YOU will be in charge of your own conversion. That means that within a specified timeframe you will be able to pick the time of day that is right for you to make the change.

What is your Windows Active Directory username and password?
This is how you login to your Windows-based computer workstation.

How do you know if this affects you? When you login to your workstation do you select UAF or SW as your domain? If so, you will be affected. The domain selection menu is located on the login screen just under the username and password fields.

How will it work? During the first week of February, you will receive an email with step-by-step details and a link to the OIT Username Converter. It will only take a few minutes for you to convert your old username to the UA Username for Windows Active Directory.

What is UA Username and password? This is the same login you already use for Google Apps @ UA, Blackboard and MyUA.

What should you do now? Nothing, there is no action to take at the moment. This is advance notice of the change slated for the first week of February.

Look for the how-to email the first week of February.

Retention Policy Change regarding ftp://ftp.alaska.edu

Effective March 1, 2010 the OIT FTP server called ftp.alaska.edu has a new file retention policy for files residing in the “incoming” and “outgoing” folders. Starting March 1, any file in those two folders will now be deleted at 11:59pm on the 30th calendar day after its creation. That allows 30 days to retrieve the ftp files. Once the file is deleted, it will not be retrievable.

Please visit these folders and retrieve any files that you want to archive prior to the March 1, date. On that date, any files older than 30 days will be deleted.

The ftp server is for files that are in transit, it is not intended for long term storage. If you have file storage needs, please contact the OIT Support Center to discuss options.

For questions and further assistance, please contact the OIT Support Center.
