Enjoy the holidays virtually
This holiday season will look different than most with a shift to virtual gatherings with family and friends as well as traditional holiday performances moved online.
Members of the University of Alaska Fairbanks vocal performance program gathered virtually Thursday evening to participate in a socially distanced holiday performance.
The group, made up of students who study under UAF music professor Jaunelle Celaire along with some members of the Choir of the North, performed a series of Christmas carols via Facebook live, inviting Fairbanks community members to feel the holiday spirit from the comfort and safety of their own homes.
A recording of the Facebook live can be found on the event page.
This UAF group is not the only one taking to the internet to spread holiday joy.
Later this month, Alaska Chamber Singers and the Anchorage Concert Chorus will perform holiday favorites on YouTube.
Alaska Chamber Singers will present holiday classics Friday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. Their YouTube channel can be found here.
The following Tuesday, Dec. 22, the Anchorage Concert Chorus will president a virtual holiday pops performance. More information can be found at anchorageconcertchorus.org or on their YouTube channel.
University of Alaska students, staff and faculty are encouraged to participate in holiday festivities virtually this year to avoid exposure or spreading of the novel coronavirus.
Zoom access provided by the university serves as an excellent way to remain connected with family over the holiday break while still maintaining safe social distance.
To access your UA provided Zoom account go to alaska.zoom.us and log in with your UA username and password. Click ‘Schedule a Meeting’ in the top navigation bar, input meeting details and click ‘Save,’ then copy the meeting URL or click ‘Copy the invitation’ and email to your family members and friends which you wish to meet virtually with.
Happy Zoom-ing and please have a safe and enjoyable holiday.
