UA BOR Announces Increased UA Scholars Award and Enhanced Flexibility

June 7, 2024

During its May 24th Board of Regents meeting, the board approved an increase to the award amount for the prestigious UA Scholars Award to $15,000. This significant enhancement marks the first major increase in the Award amount since 2015. Starting in Fall 2024, all UA Scholars will receive $1,875 per semester for eight semesters. In addition to the increased funding, Scholars can now take up to four semesters off. This change gives students greater flexibility as they navigate their college experience and future career plans. The updates apply to all incoming and current UA Scholars.

The UA Scholars Award is offered to Alaska high school students in the top ten percent of their class at the end of their junior year. The University of Alaska established the Award in 1999 to encourage Alaska students to attend and graduate from college in their home state. It is designed to provide an incentive for secondary school students to achieve academic excellence and to encourage high school graduates from every Alaska community to seriously consider the opportunities that the University of Alaska has to offer. The scholarships are funded by the University of Alaska Land Grant Trust Endowment Fund and may be used at any University of Alaska location.
