UPDATE: Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield Secures Agreement with Providence Medical Group Alaska

December 15, 2023

The University’s health insurer, Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield, has reached a new agreement with the affiliates of Providence Medical Group Alaska, the state’s largest hospital.

Why It Matters: The agreement, effective January 1, 2024, means UA employees will remain in-network while seeking care at Providence Medical Group Alaska, Providence Behavioral Medicine Group, and Providence Imaging Center.

The Background: In November, Premera announced that the three Providence affiliates had planned to end their contracts at the end of this year. This agreement guarantees the continuation of in-network care for Alaskans and University Employees covered by Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield.

More Details: Premera executives clarified that the network status of Providence Alaska Medical Center, the hospital itself, was never in question, as a new contract had already been secured earlier this year.
