University of Alaska Launches Giving Day October 20

The University of Alaska will celebrate its inaugural UA Giving Day on Tuesday, October 20. UA Giving Day - Forty-nine hours for the 49th state - is an online fundraising effort for UA alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends to come together in support of a common goal to support the University of Alaska. Giving Day begins at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 20, and donors will have the opportunity to participate through 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22.

UA Giving Day is a collaborative effort between the University of Alaska Foundation and the three separately accredited universities University of Alaska Anchorage, University of Alaska Fairbanks, and the University of Alaska Southeast. It is an opportunity to encourage students, alumni, faculty, staff, and the community to come together in a show of support for the University of Alaska. Donations of all sizes are welcome.

The UA Giving Day website, givingday.alaska.edu, has tools to help participants easily share the event through digital and social media channels. The website will track not only overall dollars and donors generated during UA Giving Day, but also gifts to schools and colleges, departments, programs and designated funds. Post about UA Giving Day across social media channels using the #UAGivingDay2020 hashtag and share in the UA Giving Day fun and excitement.

Donors are encouraged to support the campus and area of the University that is most meaningful to them. Social media ambassadors will challenge friends and family to also support the University of Alaska on UA Giving Day.

In launching UA Giving Day, the University of Alaska joins a successful trend among Association of American Universities institutions, creating a university-specific day to celebrate philanthropy.
