Erin Whitney Announced as 2021/22 U.S. Fulbright Scholar

Erin Whitney has been named a 2021-2022 Fulbright U.S. scholar to Germany to study renewably generated hydrogen for long-term energy storage options and applications, a critical need for Alaska and the Arctic.
The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program is the largest program of its kind in the U.S., awarding more than 800 fellowships annually. A cohort of 14 U.S. Fulbright scholars will go to Germany in research areas including energy, economic development, engineering, politics and more.
Whitney will spend part of this spring collaborating with researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute of Solar Energy in Freiburg in Breisgau and learning from European investments in the technology. FIS conducts research on the production, conversion and further thermochemical processing of hydrogen. In the context of the increasing importance of green hydrogen as a fuel, they are investigating automation and quality control for the industrial production of fuel cells.
In 2015, ACEP Director Gwen Holdmann was one of two UAF researchers selected as U.S. Department of State Fulbright Arctic Initiative scholars.
