Dr. Alisa Alexander appointed director of Center for UAF One Health Research

The College of Indigenous Studies is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Alisa Alexander as the new director of the Center for One Health Research, effective July 1, 2024.
Alexander joined UAF last year as deputy director of COHR, bringing with her extensive experience in tribal health to the College of Indigenous Studies. Her research spans the intersections of public health, environmental health, and animal health, emphasizing food security and sovereignty, climate change, human health, and collaborations with Indigenous communities.
“Dr. Alexander’s education and experience in the medical and public health fields make her exceptionally qualified to lead the COHR,” said Jessica Black, associate vice chancellor of rural, community and Native education. “In her brief tenure at UAF, she has established strong partnerships across the university, state, and nation.”
Alexander’s leadership aligns perfectly with the COHR’s mission to enhance research capacity, promote well-being in the Arctic, foster research innovation through team-building, and secure long-term funding opportunities through collaboration. Her expertise will be instrumental as UAF strives to achieve R1 status and preparing the next generation of One Health scholars.
